USING THE FORBIDDEN CITY AS A TEACHING TOOL
The center of Chinese imperial power for over five centuries (1416-1911), the Forbidden City in Beijing, with its landscaped gardens, 980 palatial buildings and 8,707 rooms, constitutes a priceless testimony to Chinese civilization during the Ming and Qing dynasties.
This section of the website offers guidance and resources for parents and teachers, such as lesson plans, common core guides, and additional educational resources. We encourage you to use the Forbidden City as a way to teach children about Chinese history and culture.
For K-12 educators, professional development workshops, focused on bringing the Forbidden City and China into the classroom, will be offered in cities across the United States and Canada. For more information on upcoming workshops, check out our events calendar. In New York City, workshops and short courses will also be held and made available for free on this website.
